In the exhibition ‘Unstable Image’, Cyanne van den Houten brings together robotic sculptures that were made with the help of algorithms. The sculptures each have their own logic, life and character that are determined by everyday technology. In the central chat box they talk to each other and fantasize about each other’s messages. They speculate about the hidden history of queerness in Utrecht, about female computer scientists and draw parallels between witchcraft and technology. Together, Van den Houten and the robots invite the visitor to think about the non-binary and magical potential of artificial intelligence, but also the ethical, social and artistic implications that come with it.
Cyanne was inspired by windows from our Utrecht rainbow canon: “I have been following you for some time and think what you are doing is fantastic.”
