Utrecht resident, on foot through queer history
We stand on the shoulders of the warriors who came before us. They paved the way for us so that we can increasingly be who we are. But who were these warriors?
Evert van der Veen takes you on a journey through Utrecht’s rainbow history. He takes you – walking through the beautiful Utrecht city center – further and further back in the queer history. There is much more to experience than traffic lights and zebra crossings. Discover the gay studies department of the UU in the eighties, the oldest women’s bookshop in the Netherlands and rebellious students in the seventies, the underground COC in the sixties, the celebrated Utrecht trans between the world wars, the criminalization of homosexuality in 1911, the sodomite prosecution in 1730, the rich pink life in the 18th century, and so on. Do you want to know more about the heroes of our past? Then join!
Date and time: Friday, August 28, 7:00 PM – 8:15 PM.
Location: Start from Queer Villa Utrecht, Concordiastraat 67A, Utrecht; end at café Kalff, Oudegracht 47, Utrecht.
